Pakistan Super League looks in full flow. The event has been quite a success over the last 3 years but only the board has made money. The Franchises have lost a couple million dollars each edition. This finally looks the season when PSL picks up from just being another League to a World Leader. One reason for this is that atleast 8 matches are scheduled to be played in Pakistan. This, however, ain’t the platform for business discussion. We are Cricket lovers.
The Draft for PSL 2019 is scheduled for 20th November 2018. The Event itself would be held at Islamabad and we would see numerous stars travelling to Pakistan:every step counts! 6 Teams would each be given a purchase purse of 1.2 million Dollars for their 20 players.
The schedule for the fourth season of the PSL is yet to be revealed but it will be played between February 14 and March 17. There will be a player draft for sure with teams allowed to retain 10 players and the rest will be picked through the Draft. The player draft will be held on November 20. The retention window would open from 29th September 2018.
PSL 4 Draft Categories
Players have been divided in 5 categories. Platinum being the Front Runner. Then we have the Diamond Category, followed by Gold, Silver and Emerging. As the name suggests, the Platinum Category contains World leaders in the Game. The emerging category,as the name suggests, is made up of players yet to prove themselves in International Circuit. Rumor holds it that contracted players won’t be allowed to opt out of the part to be played in Pakistan. We do hope that this turns out to be true. Won’t it be a delight seeing your favourite Super Stars in Action?
Retention and Transfer Window Update
The Retention and Transfer Window for season 2019 opened on 29th September 2018. The first major trade window is now official with experienced left-arm pacer and useful low order batsman Sohail Tanvir moving from Multan Sultans to Quetta Gladiators. As a result of this trade, the Gladiators have given up their Diamond round pick to Multan Sultans who will now have the second and third picks in the first Diamond round of the PSL Player Draft this year.
Tanvir, a global T20 specialist, brings a wealth of experience to the Gladiators squad with 301 wickets in 293 T20 matches.
“I am very excited that I am joining the Quetta Gladiators family,” said Sohail Tanvir. “I look forward to this next chapter in my playing career and I hope to play a pivotal role for the franchise in the upcoming season.”
Gladiators’ owner Nadeem Omar welcomed the seasoned campaigner to his team. “Sohail Tanvir is a versatile T20 cricketer and he brings invaluable experience to the Gladiators camp. All of us at the franchise welcome Sohail to the team and we look forward to his contributions in the next season.”
Some Interesting Inclusions this Year
Whenever, we talk of inclusions in PSL, ABD is the first name that comes to our mind and why not? The guy is a legend and would add a lot of value not only to the side he plays for but also to the brand that PSL is. Lahore would have him no doubt. This one is a no-brainer. The question is,how much of an impact he would have? For the team he plays for, ABD can do wonders. He may win you a couple of games and he may inspire your team to victory. Can’t say the same for the brand. Having retired, he is going to play any League that comes by. Too much of anything makes it lose its value. We would still love ABD playing in PSL though!
Steve Smith would also be playing and we believe this one is going to be huge too. David Warner though, refused to play in the League. We understand the security reasons he may have. Come on thousands die in Pakistan each year. Oh fu*k!Just had a blast! On a serious note though, we are gonna respect his decision without further gossip!
Players we are Going to Miss
Pakistan adores KP but this fairy tale has been one sided. KP refused to play in Pakistan on two separate occasions. We still love you KP. He showed us a few fireworks in the 3 seasons he played, scoring 611 runs in the 25 innings he played. Having retired from all forms of Cricket, we won’t see him in action this year. We do sincerely hope that he shows up in Commentary box.
Duminy won’t be available for PSL this season due to Domestic and International Commitments. He was instrumental in Islamabad winning the title last season. We would miss you Duminy. Here is his announcement:
Really njyd my time at @IsbUnited last season but unfortunately I couldn't commit to @thePSLt20 this year because of domestic and national team commitments but I will be back as and when availability permits. #PakistanZindabad

Misbah won’t feature in the tournament too and that is what you expect of a player in mid 40s.
Series Clashing with PSL 4
PSL begins on 14th February. Unlike the IPL, PSL doesn’t have a window reserved for itself. That leaves numerous players in Doubt for the series. This includes Sri Lanka touring South Africa for 2 Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20s. This leaves players with the following nationality in serious doubt. Side by sides we have England playing West Indies. With New Zealand playing Bangladesh, this season may be the grandest yet the least star studded o have ever taken place. That shouldn’t be an issue. Should it? BBL is a success and their are hardly any icons. Cricket sells itself and with a Cricket loving nation starved, PSL may see houseful in Pakistani stages of the tournament.
